Things seem to really be speeding up when it comes to Fede Alvarez’ “Alien: Romulus” sequel, to the point where it feels like they might be rushing it into production.
In an interview with Collider, Alvarez confirms that not only is he “writing” the sequel, but if all the stars align, he intends to shoot it “later this year.” One thing’s for certain, Alvarez is saying that it’s his “next movie.”
Last fall, just a few months after its summer release, 20th Century boss Steve Asbell confirmed a sequel to ‘Romulus’ was already in the works, and that Alvarez, alongside actors Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson, were set to return. However, we had no idea things were this far in development.
The film, which rehashed the 1979 original’s formula, was one of the bigger successes of the year, earning $350M at the global box office against an $80M budget. Alvarez also found the franchise's new Ripley in the form of Cailee Spaeny's Rain. A sequel was bound to happen.
