Here’s a release date shakeup. Steven Spielberg’s anticipated UFO film no longer opens in theaters on May 15, 2026. Instead, the filmmaker’s mysterious new film opens on June 12, 2026 which was a slot previously reserved for Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan’s next project.
The Daniels, as they are referred to, directed 2022’s “Everything Everywhere All at Once” which dominated the 95th Academy Awards. The film won seven Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director statuettes. Ford, Wilder, Coppola, Eastwood, Spielberg, Scorsese … Scheinert/Kwan — the rich tradition of Oscar-winning filmmakers continued.
The filmmaking duo’s followup has been shrouded in total secrecy. Details have yet to emerge about plot or casting, but Universal seems to suggest it’ll have a bigger scope and budget than their previous two films (EEAAO and “Swiss Army Man”).
