3-Hour ‘Midsommar' Director's Cut Screened in NYC

August 19, 2019 Jordan Ruimy

This past Saturday, the 12th edition of the Scary Movies festival at Film at Lincoln Center screened a worldwide premiere of Ari Aster’s extended version of “Midsommar.”

Clocking in at nearly three-hours, the extended version has a review courtesy of IndieWire’s David Ehrlich which he describes as mostly “new material sewn into pre-existing scenes” with the exception of two newly added sequences. Ehrlich goes on to add that in this new cut of the film “Christian is an even more pronounced asshole” and that there is more “fleshing out of the Hårga rituals, and the collectivist harmony.”

There is still no word yet on whether this new 177 minute “director’s cut” will ever be released by A24.
