Hidden deep inside this Variety piece is a brief line saying that MUBI has acquired Jim Jarmusch’s “Father Mother Sister Brother” — which is definitely going to Cannes.
The cast for “Father Mother Sister Brother”includes Cate Blanchett, Vicky Krieps, Adam Driver, Tom Waits, Charlotte Rampling and Mayim Bialik. Production on the film wrapped in June 2024.
The film is being described as a “triptych” following three separate stories set in different countries and revolving around relationships between adults, children, their somewhat distant parents and each other. The first part, “Father,” is set in the east coast in Northeastern U.S., “Mother” in Dublin, and “Sister Brother” in Paris.
This is set to be Jarmusch’s first film in over six years. The Ohio-born filmmaker has been a mainstay of the indie movie scene since the ‘80s. His minimalist, unhurried and idiosyncratic films don’t follow transitional narrative structures, but rather tend to focus more on mood; his notable works include “Paterson,” “Only Lovers Left Alive,” “Stranger Than Paradise,” “Broken Flowers,” “Down By Law,” and “Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai.”
