Whatever you thought of Brady Corbet’s “The Brutalist,” and we’ll get to that in a second, I’ve been very impressed by A24’s handling of this film.
When it premiered at last September’s Venice Film Festival, you had journalists wondering just how a 3.5 hour film, with a 15-minute intermission, could be marketed to the general moviegoing public.
Well, not only has it been successfully marketed, but ”The Brutalist” has expanded more widely this weekend. Corbet’s 215-minute epic is now playing in 1700+ theatres nationwide. A24 has managed to turn this independently financed film into an event.
“The Brutalist,” which has so far grossed $12M, had a production budget of just “under $10M.” I gather many of our readers have seen the film by now, or will be able to catch it this weekend — what did you think? Does it deserve to win Best Picture?
