As I’m in the middle of catching up with all of the “buzzy” Sundance films, it didn’t even cross my mind that New Line’s “Companion” was theatrically released today. It’s currently playing in 2700+ screens.
Written and directed by Drew Hancock, “Companion” nabbed $1.1M in Thursday previews. It’s now projected to earn $11M this weekend. That’s decent for a film that’s reported to have only cost $10M.
As January continues to be a dumping ground for studio titles, “Companion” is a rare exception, by all means, go and catch it this weekend — it’s an inventive blend of sci-fi horror and loaded with twists (reviewed last week).
