UPDATE: Well, this had good buzz. “Opus” screened last night at Sundance, and unfortunately reviews have turned out to be very mixed. So far, Screen, THR, IndieWire, Joblo, The Playlist, We Live Entertainment and RogerEbert are not impressed.
The A24-produced “Opus” has a trailer.
Mark Anthony Green’s thriller, which has already set up a March 14 theatrical release, is about a reclusive rock star named Moretti (John Malkovich) who’s suddenly releasing a new album after almost 30 years. As part of his album release, Moretti, with sinister motives, invites select press, including Ayo Edeberi, Juliette Lewis, and Murray Hamilton to his remote compound where he lives like a prince.
“Opus” is Green’s feature film directorial debut, he also wrote the screenplay. As mentioned, “Opus” will premiere at Sundance next week, and it’s playing in the festival’s Midnight section. We should expect reviews to pop out sometime on Monday afternoon.
