Following her Palme d’Or win and Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, Justine Triet—the French filmmaker behind “Anatomy of a Fall” —has been attracting serious attention from Hollywood.
The latest update on Triet’s ‘Anatomy’ followup has her having now decided what hee bect film is going to be. According to Variety,Trier is going to shoot something “in English with some major stars [attached].” No other details are known at this time.
Could it be “Monica”? Last year, Triet had confirmed having been approached to direct a film adaptation of “Monica,” the graphic novel by Daniel Clowes, with Cate Blanchett attached to star. Still, Triet noted that she hadn’t yet decided whether she’ll take on the project.
In Clowes’ acclaimed 2023 novel, the author blends several different genres into one story, separating them by chapter, chronicling the journey of a girl who is in search of her mother and trying to uncover her mysterious past.
Last year, one of the film’s producers, Marie-Ange Luciani, told RTL that Triet was currently being pursued by top figures across the industry, and that even Steven Spielberg personally met with Triet and her writing partner Arthur Harari, expressing his admiration for their work and offering them a chance to write a screenplay for him.
Triet isn’t a one-trick pony either. Her previous films, before ‘Anatomy,’ included two works well worth seeking out: “Victoria” (2016) and her underseen gem “Sibyl” (2019).
