Laura Wandel's ‘Adam's Interest' to Open 2025 Cannes Critics' Week

April 14, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

The 2025 Cannes Critics’ Week lineup is here, and it features a few nifty entries, including “Left-Handed Girl,” co-written and edited by Sean Baker, and Pauline Loquès’ Théodore Pellerin-led “Nino.”

Laura Wandel's “Playground” follow-up, “Adam's Interest” starring Anamaria Vartolomei and Léa Drucker, will be the opening night film. I had reported the Cannes selection committee liked Wandel’s film, but could not find room for it in competition, the filmmaker has now decided to go to Critics’ Week.

The second feature from Wandel, after the acclaimed childhood bullying drama “Playground,” will again use handheld camera, and follows three characters in a pediatric ward: a helpless mother (Vartolomei), her under-nourished son, and a nurse (Drucker).
