Emma D'Arcy Joins Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu’s Next Film

April 14, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

A quick note on Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu’s tentatively titled “Judy.”

The film has added Emma D’Arcy (“House of the Dragon”) to its sprawling ensemble cast, which already includes Tom Cruise, Sandra Hüller, Jesse Plemons, John Goodman, Riz Ahmed, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Sophie Wilde.

“Judy” has been shooting at the Warner Bros lot in London since December. It is currently dated for release on October 2, 2026. The entire project is being shrouded in secrecy, and I doubt we’ll learn anything about it until next year.

Not much is known in terms of plot details, but it’s clear that Cruise is the lead. As far as we’ve learned, Iñàrritu’s film centers “on the most powerful man in the world, who embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.”

Inarritu co-wrote the script in 2023 with “Birdman” writers Nicolas Giacobone and Alexander Dinelaris, along with Sabina Berman. This will be Cruise’s first film since signing with Warner Bros. Discovery in January. His last project with the studio was 2014’s “Edge of Tomorrow.”

A previous listing had cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki lensing Iñárritu’s film. A major get. Lubezki was noticeably absent from Inarritu’s last film, “Bardo” — that one was shot by the great Darius Khondji. In fact, Lubezki, a three-time Oscar winner, hasn’t lensed a feature film since 2022’s “Amsterdam.”

Meanwhile, Iñárritu will be directing his first film since “Bardo,” which premiered at Venice 2022 to polarizing reviews. His most notable works include “Amores Perros,” “Birdman,” “The Revenant,” “Babel,” and “21 Grams.”
