Imax CEO Richard Gelfond is revealing that Christopher Nolan will be using new IMAX technology for his next film (via Variety):
I’m pleased to share that Chris will be utilizing new IMAX technology in the making of the film — never-before-used equipment that our teams have been developing through this past year.
During a call with analysts and investors, Gelfond reportedly disclosed the information right after the quarterly IMAX performance numbers surfaced. Nolan is set to return with this new untitled film, starring Tom Holland and Matt Damon, in summer 2026, and he’s expected to put this new technology to good use. IMAX has only been developing it since last year.
Nolan utilizing next-gen IMAX film cameras comes after year-long rumors that the cameras would be fully operational by the end of 2024. Principal photography on Nolan’s film, which still has no plot details, is set to commence in early 2025.
It also looks as though Nolan’s film will be taking up most of the IMAX screens for its first few weeks of release which begs us to ask, will ‘Spider-Man 4’ be delayed? The latest Spidey, which also stars Holland, is set to be released only one week after Nolan’s film.
