The trailer for the new sci-fi film, “Bliss,” is causing divisive reaction on social media. It’s concept is meant to be a total mindfuck, with the plot seemingly playing as something of a hybrid mix between “Inception” and “The Matrix.” The question being asked is simple; Why wake up and experience the real world when the simulation is way better than your actual life? This is something we may be realistically asking ourselves in the future (maybe 100 years from now?).
As seen in the trailer for “Bliss,” the film has Owen Wilson having recurring deja vu moments, dreams about a mysterious woman that he has never met before. However, when he does come across her at a bar, he starts to wonder what’s really going on. You see, the world he’s experiencing just a mirage created via the simulation technology she has created. And over the course of the film, Wilson’s character has to figure out what’s real, and what’s fake? Ambiguity seems to be the name of the game here.
The film stars Owen Wilson, Salma Hayek, Madeline Zima, DeRon Horton, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., and Joshua Leonard. “Bliss” is written and directed by Mike Cahill — he gave us two very ambitious sci-fi films, “I Origins” and “Another Earth,” both I had reservations with, but both have their cult followings.
“Bliss” arrives on Amazon Prime Video on February 5.
