Blumhouse Acquires Co-Ownership of ‘Saw’ Franchise Rights

June 5, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

Blumhouse Productions has reportedly acquired Twisted Pictures’ 50% stake in the Saw franchise, while Lionsgate retains its 50% share and continues as a production and distribution partner.

Jason Blum will be milking this one to oblivion, and that’s despite 10 ‘Saw’ movies having already been released, with the last one being 2023’s “Saw X.”

This development follows internal disputes between Twisted Pictures and Lionsgate, which had stalled the production of “Saw XI,” initially slated for release in September 2025.

The acquisition could pave the way for Saw co-creator James Wan to return to the franchise, especially considering Blumhouse’s recent merger with Wan’s company, Atomic Monster. This merger potentially grants Wan greater creative control over the series he helped launch in 2004.
