The Philippou’s Next Film is “Extreme" Doc About Deathmatch Wrestling

June 5, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

Fresh off the acclaim of “Talk to Me” and the momentum building behind “Bring Her Back,” the Philippou brothers show no signs of slowing down anytime soon, continuing to push creative boundaries with every new project they take on.

The Australian filmmaking duo, Danny and Michael Philippou (aka RackaRacka), have quietly been shooting a new project that veers way off the arthouse-horror path and right back to their YouTube chaos roots: a full-blown, blood-soaked documentary about deathmatch wrestling.

“It’s extreme performance art with glass, barbed wire, thumbtacks,” the brothers revealed in an interview with DiscussingFilm. “We had been shooting it between “Talk to Me” and “Bring Her Back,” hopefully, that’ll premiere early next year.”

According to them, this isn’t just an outsider’s peek into the brutal underground scene — it’s personal. Michael actually entered the ring to take part in the carnage, while Danny trained and performed in a match for the documentary as well. “A lot of what we did is illegal in most states,” they admitted.

The doc, which is currently untitled, was shot in a way the brothers say no one has ever done before — with cameras inside the ring, capturing raw, intimate, and chaotic footage of real injuries and extreme stunts.

RackaRacka fans will remember that their earliest YouTube videos already had a deep love for pro wrestling baked into the DNA, so in a way, this project is a full-circle moment, but maybe with more blood.

While a “Talk to Me” sequel is still in development at A24, the wrestling doc has clearly taken priority for now, with the Philippous spending the rest of 2025 locked in the editing room.
