‘Project Hail Mary’ Has A 3-Minute Trailer, and Keeps its March 2026 Release Date

June 30, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

A trailer for “Project Hail Mary” has been unveiled, and it looks like the studio is still aiming for that March 2026 release date—at least for now.

Be warned: Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s upcoming sci-fi feature now has a nearly three-minute trailer, and it reveals quite a bit of the plot. With the film still nine months out, the decision to show so much this early is risky.

While it’s not unusual for studios to start marketing a major release up to a year in advance, those early promos are typically brief teaser trailers, usually clocking in at under two minutes. This one, however, is a full-fledged trailer.

Starring Ryan Gosling and adapted from Andy Weir’s bestselling novel, Project Hail Mary has been steadily building anticipation, especially after I shared some early reactions from a West Coast test screening that suggested the film is basically finished, with visual effects already looking polished.

The test screening feedback was overwhelmingly, with viewers describing it as intelligent, emotionally resonant sci-fi. Gosling’s performance was highlighted as one of his most emotionally nuanced in recent memory, with particular praise for the way the film blends large-scale spectacle with intimate, character-driven storytelling.

Production wrapped in October 2024. The story follows a science teacher, played by Gosling, who is sent on a solo mission to save Earth from extinction. The screenplay was adapted by Drew Goddard, known for “The Martian,” and the film marks Lord and Miller’s first return to directing a feature since parting ways with Solo back in 2017.

“Project Hail Mary” is supposed to hit theaters March 20, 2026 via Amazon/MGM.
