As Nic Pizzolatto continues to navigate the behind-the-scenes battles over his directorial debut “Easy’s Waltz,” he’s already moving forward with his next project — and it marks a reunion with True Detective star Matthew McConaughey.
According to Deadline, McConaughey is currently in discussions to take on the lead role in a new film centered on iconic noir detective Mike Hammer, with Skydance backing the production.
No surprise, the studio is eyeing a franchise built around Mickey Spillane’s long-running book series, which has sold more than 250 million copies worldwide. Hammer, known for his gritty, no-nonsense persona, remains a pillar of American crime fiction — a clear influence on action antiheroes like Dirty Harry and Jack Reacher.
While Pizzolatto recently hinted that he could possibly reunite with McConaughey and Woody Harrelson for another season of ‘True Detective,’ momentum has instead shifted toward this feature adaptation. The trade’s sources say the team sees Mike Hammer as the kind of character ripe for a modern reinvention.
