Kevin Spacey’s Directorial Return is a Low-Budget Sci-Fi Epic With Dolph Lundgren, Tyrese Gibson and Eric Roberts

May 27, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

Because 2025 wasn’t already strange enough, Kevin Spacey is now a director again. For the first time in over two decades, the twice-Oscar-blessed-turned-Hollywood-pariah has stepped behind the camera, and naturally, he’s also starring.

The film? A supernatural action-thriller called “Holiguards.” Variety reports that it stars Spacey alongside an eclectic grab bag of co-stars including Dolph “I Must Break You” Lundgren, Tyrese “Why Am I in Morbius?” Gibson, Brianna Hildebrand (Deadpool’s angsty teen), Disha Patani, Eric Roberts (eternally contractually obligated to appear in everything), and a few other influencers.

Here’s the plot: in a future torn apart by supernatural forces, two warring factions—the Holiguards and the Statiguards—are fighting a shadowy war over humanity’s fate. A young woman, conveniently born from both sides of the ancient blood feud, might just be the key to peace… unless a Statiguard strategist nukes Paris first while opening a cosmic portal to awaken something ominously named “the Prime.” (No relation to Amazon.)

Shot in Mexico on a $10M budget, “Holiguards” is now deep in post-production, prepping itself to launch what producers are already calling a franchise. The project is backed by Elledgy Media, run by Portugal-based Ukrainian entrepreneur Elvira Gavrilova Paterson, whose name sounds almost as fictional as the movie’s plot.
