Not much time to collect my thoughts on Spike Lee’s “Highest 2 Lowest”—Julia Ducournau’s “Alpha” is about to start—but early critical reception seems generally positive.
Deadline, Variety, IndieWire (B), The Guardian (4/5), The Wrap, The Playlist (B+), The Independent (3/5), and THR. So far, only Screen is negative towards it.
Lee has been enjoying something of a critical resurgence over the past decade. After a rough stretch from 2005 to 2014, when most of his work was panned, he’s been on a winning streak since 2015. Critics have embraced everything from “Chi-Raq” to “BlacKkKlansman” to “Da 5 Bloods.”
