Netflix Saves ‘Fixed'! The R-Rated Animated Film Dropped by Warner Bros. Finds New Home

April 16, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

A few years ago, Warner Bros. acquired an R-rated animated comedy from filmmaker Genndy Tartakovsky (“Hotel Transylvania”) called “Fixed,” about a dog’s wild last night before being neutered.

The film is a co-production between Warner’s New Line and Sony Pictures, and it wrapped production in 2023 with a voice cast that includes Adam Devine and Kathryn Hahn. However, Warner CEO David Zaslav put the kibosh on the entire project, much like he did with “Batgirl” and “Coyote vs. ACME.”

Warner Bros. decided not to release “Fixed.” Instead, the plan was to shelve it as part of a broader cost-cutting strategy. Eventually, Sony got it back and has since been trying to sell it to any distributor that would bite. Without a buyer, “Fixed” could have ended up like “Batgirl” and never seen the light of day.

Enter Netflix. According to The Wrap, the streaming giant has officially picked up “Fixed,” which is set to premiere globally on August 13, 2025. The film is reported to feature Tartakovsky's signature hand-drawn animation style, reminiscent of classic cartoons like “Lady and the Tramp.”

Despite initial reluctance from streaming platforms, Netflix's Animation Series team, led by John Derderian, ultimately agreed to pick up the film, recognizing its potential appeal to adult animation audiences.

Tartakovsky, known for his work on “Samurai Jack,” is expressing excitement about the film's release on Netflix. He describes “Fixed” as a "sweet, charming, sincere story of friendship and romance," emphasizing its commitment to 2D animation and original storytelling.

The film's upcoming release on Netflix marks a significant milestone for adult animated features, and I predict its unusual nature—R-rated and animated—will turn out to be a hit on the streamer.
