David Fincher’s Next Film To Star Brad Pitt — A Mystery Sequel [Updated]

March 28, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

These past few weeks I’ve been holding off on reporting when it comes to this one. I've been trying to find out more details but to no avail. So, I might as well just put it out there.

According to two sources, David Fincher has already eyed his next movie project, and it’s set to star Brad Pitt. Netflix is producing, and it's part of the multi-year deal Fincher signed with Netflix.

The big gimme here is what the film is about, which I’m told is an even bigger story than a Pitt/Fincher reunion. The project is a sequel, but not to a film Fincher previously directed. For the time being, it's being kept a major secret. It's anybody’s guess, but I would hope someone, anyone, particularly one of the trades, picks up on this story and runs with it.

What I’m also hearing is that any plans Fincher might have had in shooting his western, “Bitterroot,” have been permanently put on hold for the Pitt project which is very likely going to be Fincher’s next film.

For the time being, Fincher is in the middle of developing his “Squid Game” series for Netflix, which has been picking up steam these last few weeks. No cast has been announced just yet, and you can scratch off those Leonardo DiCaprio rumors — he's not taking part in the series.

Pitt and Fincher have worked on three films together: “Se7en,” “Fight Club” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.” I'm hearing Pitt has already signed on for this fourth collaboration with Netflix.

Fincher recently renewed his Netflix contract until 2027, and has at least four different projects in various stages of development, including “Squid Game: America” and his “Chinatown” prequel series. He’s released two films with the streamer: 2020’s “Mank” and 2023’s “The Killer.”
