‘Twisters’ Sequel in the Works

March 24, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

No surprise, those damn storm chasers will be coming back for more. A sequel to “Twisters,” starring Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar Jones, is reportedly in development at Universal Pictures and Warner Bros. as reported by insider Daniel Richtman.

The potential titles are endless for this second chapter in the Tornado franchise. What’s the current best bet? These are just some of the titles Universal has the luxury to choose from:

Twi2sters
Twisters 2
A Good Day to Twister Hard
Twisters: Part Deux
Twisters in Space

“Twisters” was a box office hit in the US, but was not as successful overseas, earning $372M worldwide against a budget of $155M. A whopping $268M of that intake came from North America. The rest of the world couldn’t care less about tornadoes ravaging the mid-west.

Deadline specified how red state audiences had come out in full force for “Twisters.” Why? The trade reasoned that the film didn’t politicize its setting (“not one word about climate change”). I mean, I guess that’s one reason, but it could just be that this reboot was heavily marketed to the masses, and the 1996 original built up a big following over the years.

There's no doubt in my mind that Powell and Edgar-Jones are game to reprise their lead roles. No word yet on whether Lee Isaac Chung will return to direct, but I would imagine he’ll be offered a lot of money not to say no.
