PTA’s ‘One Battle After Another’ Delayed to September 26

March 19, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

It was an inevitability. We knew this one would move, but where exactly on the calendar would it land? We now have an answer.

Warner Bros has officially delayed Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another.” The film is now set for release on September 26. Its original August 8 date will now be taken by Zach Cregger’s “Weapons.”

“One Battle After Another” will have access to plenty of IMAX screens, and even select theaters that play 70mm and VISTA VISION. Word is that PTA might not be too keen in premiering the film at a fall festival, but if one such premiere does occur, the most obvious destination would be Venice.

September isn’t necessarily the best month on the movie calendar for a studio to showcase their high-quality fare, and at this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if PTA’s film gets eventually delayed further down the calendar — maybe in December?

‘One Battle’ is set to be the priciest film of PTA’s career, as it’s rumored to have cost well over $140M. It’s also test screened at least three times, with another two screenings set up for early next week. Sources say that Warner Bros is still trying to figure out the best way to market this unique film, dubbed as an “action comedy.”

“One Battle After Another” is said to be loosely inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s “Vineland.” Leonardo DiCaprio leads an ensemble that includes Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro, Regina Hall, Alana Haim and Texans Taylor.
