Last year, Showbiz411’s Roger Friedman reported that Kimberly Peirce would be writing and directing a remake of 1981 film noir “Body Heat” for Warner Bros.
DanielRPK is reporting that Emma Stone has been offered the lead role, the one originally portrayed by Kathleen Turner as the conniving younger wife of an older wealthy man. I don’t know if this casting quite works. Stone as a femme fatale? You be the judge.
“Body Heat” was a product of its time, an ‘80s neo-noir that had Turner’s femme fatale convincing a local lawyer (William Hurt) to help her murder her abusive husband (Richard Crenna), and run away with the insurance money.
The film's eroticism, particularly its sex scenes, was largely driven by Turner's character, who used her sexual allure to manipulate and control, adding to the film's sense of danger and intrigue.
“Body Heat” is not the type of film that comes to mind for a remake, and it remains to be seen if Stone will even accept the offer. She’s coming off having won an Oscar for “Poor Things,” and has two films coming out this year — “Eddington” and “Bugonia.”
Peirce has had a disappointing career since the success of her shattering 1999 debut, “Boys Don’t Cry”. It’s been a struggle ever since. She’s only directed two other films these last 25 years, 2008’s “Stop-Loss” and 2013’s “Carrie” remake.
