Some have caught wind (via Box Office Mojo) that Antoine Fuqua’s Michael Jackson biopic has just been removed from Lionsgate’s 2025 calendar. Its intended October 3 release potentially delayed?
This isn’t anything official, but it wouldn’t surprise me either (more about that below). I’ve emailed Lionsgate for comment, but have yet to hear from them.
The release of “Michael” had been recently delayed from April to October. What Lionsgate didn’t specify, and for obvious reasons, was why they had decided to push back the film, by almost seven months.
Less than two weeks ago, we learned that the third act of “Michael” had been completely scrapped and would have to be rewritten and reshot due to some major legal issues. Additional photography had been set up for next month, but that was only if Lionsgate gave the go-ahead on the new script.
