Luca Guadagnino Distancing Himself From ‘American Psycho'?

January 8, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

On Monday, author Bret Easton Ellis claimed that Luca Guadagnino’s “American Psycho,” starring Austin Butler, wasn’t actually a thing, and even went as far as to call it “fake news.”

Here’s now a recent interview where Guadagnino finally talks about ‘American Psycho,’ for the first time, and seems to be of the mindset that it’s just one of many projects that he has in “development.” Here’s his response when asked about the project (via GQ):

Any director, in this moment, they are all developing projects. Sometimes you develop with Hollywood, sometimes you have material being handed to you by a studio, by a producer. And I think all of us do make two, three, four, five, six, seven developments…

If anyone can back up that claim, then it’s Guadagnino. Other projects of his currently in “development” include “Camere Separate,” “The Lord of the Flies,” “Leading Men,” “Buddenbrooks,” and I guess, “American Psycho.” The latest update is that Guadagnino’s next film might actually be the DCU’s “Sgt. Rock,” starring Daniel Craig, which is eyeing a fall shoot. He’s also already shot and completed a new film (“After the Hunt”) set for 2025 release.

This past Sunday, Guadagnino was seen walking out of the Golden Globes ceremony after “Emilia Perez” beat his “Challengers” for Best Motion Picture Musical/Comedy.
