Finally, the first big deal out of Sundance 2025. It sure came late in the game, with all of the world premieres having already been screened in Park City.
Neon has acquired the rights to Michael Shanks’ “Together,” a well-reviewed body-horror starring Dave Franco, and Alison Brie. A release date of August 1, 2025 is being eyed for the film.
“Together” premiered in the midnight section on January 26 at the Eccles Theater and Neon was in the middle of a bidding war with A24 and Netflix. No word yet on how much they paid for the film, but I would guess it’s in the $10M-$15M range.
“Together” currently sits at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. That midnight screening played like gangbusters, I’m told, and there’s a real air of optimism, with the recent success of “The Substance,” and the horror genre in general, that it’ll be a commercial success once it gets released in theatres.
Here’s the synopsis:
With a move to the countryside already testing the limits of a couple’s relationship, a supernatural encounter begins an extreme transformation of their love, their lives, and their flesh.
For the past week, the media had been calling this latest edition of Sundance a total bust, but we can expect some deals to come down the drain now; albeit, nothing earth shattering. “Together” will probably be the biggest sell. Watch out for “Lurker,” which screened last night to glowing reactions, to find a home in the coming days.
