After his strong performance as Edward Teller in “Oppenheimer,” Benny Safdie will be reuniting with Christopher Nolan on “The Odyssey” (via THR).
Safdie joins an incredible ‘Odyssey’ cast that already includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron and Jon Bernthal. Shooting is due to begin in late February.
While Safdie is known for his directing, particularly with brother Josh, he’s built up an interesting acting career this decade, starring in such films as “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret,” “The Stars at Noon,” “Pieces of a Woman,” and “Licorice Pizza.”
After Safdie wraps filming on Nolan’s ‘Odyssey,’ he’ll likely go back to post work on his solo directing debut, “The Smashing Machine,” which has been — falsely — built up as an Oscar vehicle for Johnson. I’m hearing it’s the total opposite, and will likely be one of the strangest and most puzzling narrative films of 2025.
