Any “Den of Thieves” fans?
When Christian Guedegast’s “Den of Thieves” came out in 2018, critics hated it — the film currently stands at 42% on Rotten Tomatoes. Yet, this is one of those movies that has gained success on streaming. The film was this token heist thriller, inspired by “Heat” (aren’t they all?) that was successful enough to now warrant a sequel.
Much of the cast is back in “Den of Thieves 2: Pantera,” including Gerard Butler and O’Shea Jackson Jr. Distributed by Lionsgate, it’s the big new release this weekend. The film earned $1.3M in Thursday previews at the box office. It’s projected to make $13M in its opening weekend.
The reviews have been decent, better than the first one, as ‘Pantera’ currently sits at 72% on Rotten Tomatoes, and 62 on Metacritic. Given that the budget was just $35M, and if it ends up recouping its production costs, then we might very well get a third film greenlit soon.
