Andrew Haigh Set to Direct Leonardo Da Vinci Movie for Universal

May 2, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

Universal Pictures has found its director for the “high-priority” Leonardo da Vinci film that’s been percolating around for some years now. Hot off the heels of last December’s “All of Us Strangers,” filmmaker Andrew Haigh has been tasked to direct and adapt Walter Isaacson’s acclaimed biography of the Renaissance man.

Isaacson based his research on thousands of pages from Leonardo da Vinci’s notebooks and new discoveries about his life and work, Leonardo DiCaprio was originally in talks to play da Vinci, famous for iconic works such as “The Last Supper,” “Mona Lisa” and “Salvator Mundi.”

Haigh’s last four critically-acclaimed films (“Weekend”, “45 Years,” “Lean on Pete,” “All of Us Strangers”) have led to his being attached to a number of projects, including “McGlue” and “In the Belly of the Beast.” No word yet on which film comes first, but the Da Vinci biopic seems to be a priority for Universal, so maybe that one is next.
