Colin Farrell To Star In Edward Berger’s ‘The Ballad Of A Small Player’ For Netflix

April 9, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

Edward Berger’s “All Quiet on the Western Front” won four Oscars, including Best International Film. His follow-up, “Conclave,” is set for release this November, via Focus and, now, he’s already setting up his next film …

Berger will direct Colin Farrell in Netflix‘s “The Ballad of a Small Player." Rowan Joffe will pen a screenplay that is is based on Lawrence Osborne’s novel. Production is expected to start later this year. Here’s the synopsis:

The story follows a high-stakes gambler who decides to lay low in Macau after his past and debts catch up with him. Along the way he encounters a kindred spirit who might just hold the key to his salvation.

Before he broke out with “All Quiet on the Western Front,” Berger had directed 2019’s underseen German film “All My Loving,” which THR reviewed as having “as much teeth and personality as a gummy bear.”
