Adam McKay Has Meltdown Over Martin Scorsese's Beatles Documentary

November 29, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

Adam McKay, who had what was supposed to be his next film, a $150M political satire, canceled by Netflix, has now gone on a bit of a tangent on social media about the new Martin Scorsese-produced Beatles documentary, which is now streaming on Disney+

Suffice to say, McKay isn’t a Beatles fan, but it’s quite amusing how he’s gone about showcasing that. Of course, McKay being McKay, he has to add politics to the equation, describing The Beatles as an overrated “white liberal” fascination.

Like, really? This is something that we need at this point? [..] Nothing is lamer/funnier than white liberals’ never ending fascination for the Beatles. It’s so Neo-liberal. “They’re the best, right? So let’s never stop micro-focusing on them.

Liberals always operate from a “must get the right answer on the test” list of approved culture. It’s so lifeless and flat. Like yeah, Happiness is a Warm Gun and Day in the Life are great tunes but let’s move past age 13.

McKay goes on to compare The Beatles to “cheeseburgers” and “Coca Cola” and describing the band’s seminal ‘Sgt. Pepper’ album as “lame.” One can only imagine what he thinks about Sam Mendes shooting his four Beatles films next year.

In the meantime, McKay is producing a “climate change” movie featuring sharks, and hurricanes. Oh, and he’s apparently been funding these attacks on priceless art by dishing out $4M towards to an organization that splashed tomato soup on Van Gogh’s 'Sunflowers' at London’s National Gallery.
