Steven Soderbergh’s New Film, ‘Black Bag’ to Star Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender [Update]

January 19, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

UPDATE: THR is reporting that Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett are set to star in “Black Bag,” a spy-thriller being penned by David Koepp.

EARLIER: Steven Soderbergh is reportedly searching for a distributor for his latest film, “Black Bag.” I’ve heard that one of the projects Soderbergh has been working was a comedy, maybe this is it.

According to The InSneider, Soderbergh’s “Black Bag” is his next project and he’s been shopping it around to numerous studios — Apple and Focus Features are reportedly both interested in picking up the distribution rights.

Meanwhile, Soderbergh is at Sundance where tonight he will premiering “Presence.” The horror film, written by David Koepp, and stars Lucy Liu, Julia Fox, Chris Sullivan, Callina Lang, Edday Maday, and West Mulholland.

Soderbergh is a workhorse. He never stops. Ever since unretiring in 2017, he’s averaged, at least, one movie or series a year. The prolific filmmaker has moved from psychological thriller, to drama, to comedy, albeit never allowing the films to lose that distinct Soderbergh-ian touch. He’s a genre-hopper, and he does it effortlessly.
