‘Ozark' Was the Most Watched Streaming Series of 2020; Followed By ‘Lucifer,' ‘The Crown' and ‘Tiger King'

January 19, 2021 Jordan Ruimy

According to the year-end 2020 streaming rankings from the very-reliable Nielsen (via THR), Netflix is the king of streaming, and it’s not even close. When it comes to original content, Netflix owns 9 of the 10 most-watched shows in the country.

After Netflix, Disney+ comes in a distant second, much due to the massive success they’ve had with “The Mandalorian.” However, it was “Ozark” that was the most-watched show of 2020. From December 30, 2019 through December 27, 2020, Ozark’s 30 episodes, spanning three seasons, garnered more than 30,462 billion minutes of total viewing, according to Nielson. When season 3 of “Ozark” was released on Netflix on March 27, 2020, the crime drama starring Jason Bateman and Laura Linney scored close to triple the viewership the series garnered the first day of its Season 2 premiere on August 31, 2018.

1. Ozark (Netflix) 30.46
2. Lucifer (Netflix) 18.95
3. The Crown (Netflix) 16.28
4. Tiger King (Netflix) 15.61
5. The Mandalorian (Disney+) 14.52
6. The Umbrella Academy (Netflix) 13.47
7. The Great British Baking Show (Netflix) 13.28
8. Boss Baby: Back in Business (Netflix) 12.63
9. Longmire (Netflix) 11.38
10. You (Netflix) 10.97
