Wes Anderson's ‘The French Dispatch' Delayed Until October 16th, 2020

April 3, 2020 Jordan Ruimy

As mentioned yesterday, the release of Wes Anderson's “The French Dispatch” has now officially had its July 24th release date moved to October 16th, 2020. This only reinforces my argument that the summer movie season is most likely canceled. There will be no big movie releases between now and August. You can take it to the bank. Up next, Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” will make the switch, the real question is does it get delayed until the fall or does Warner Bros. keep Nolan’s summer streak of films going and wait until Summer 2021 …

The full title of Anderson’s film is “The French Dispatch of the Liberty, Kansas Evening Sun,” Although not a great deal is known about the plot, the film does have a host of Anderson regulars and newcomers, including, Frances McDormand, Timothee Chalamet, Bill Murray, Saoirse Ronan, Benicio Del Toro, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Léa Seydoux, and Owen Wilson.

I, for one, can’t wait to see what one of cinema’s most original voices has up his sleeves. “The French Dispatch” was rumored to open the 2020 Cannes Film Festival, which has now been postponed until, at least, late June. Anderson’s last movie was his excellent 2018 stop-motion animation romp “Isle of Dogs.”
