Steven Soderbergh's ‘The Laundromat' Finally Has a Trailer

August 28, 2019 Jordan Ruimy

A group of journalists unearth 11.5 million files, linking the world’s most powerful political figures to secret banking accounts to avoid taxes. (Gary Oldman, Melissa Rauch, Meryl Streep, Robert Patrick). Newly un-retired director Steven Soderbergh, who already released “High Flying Bird” earlier this year, is set to release “The Laundromat” this fall as well.  Soderbergh’s film is being distributed by Netflix and is slated for an awards season premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Soderbergh hasn’t made Oscar-bait fare since, gosh, 2000’s one-two punch of ‘Erin Brokovich' and 'Traffic.' Of course, judging by the just-released 'The Laundromat" trailer, the only thing Oscar-bait about this movie seems to be Meryl Streep's presence and its November release date. No, this rather looks like a movie that feels quite similar to Soderbergh’s highly underrated “The Informant.”

Soderbergh seems to have shot it with a range of the latest RED digital cameras. The outstanding cast also features Sharon Stone, Alex Pettyfer, David Schwimmer, and Melissa Rauch, among others. Riley Keough.

“The Laundromat” will premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 1, 2019, and hits Netflix on November 29th.

A widow (Meryl Streep) investigates an insurance fraud, chasing leads to a pair of Panama City law partners (Gary Oldman and Antonio Banderas) exploiting the world's financial system. Steven Soderbergh directs.
