BOX-OFFICE: ‘The Curse of La Llorona’ Takes Easter Weekend

April 21, 2019 Jordan Ruimy

I totally blew off press screenings this past week. Yes, I was going out of town on Friday for the holidays, but I could have easily caught “Breakthrough” and “The Curse of La Llorona” earlier in the week. Sometimes, even a film buff needs a break. I know what’s coming, a weekly barrage of summer blockbusters on near non-stop basis for the next 16 weeks, starting with next Friday’s “Avengers: Endgame.” God help me.

“The Curse of La Llorona,” which is yet another horror spin-off from the ‘Conjuring’ series, err, conjured-up an excellent $26.5 million this weekend; The film just cost $9 million to make. The six films in the series have grossed $1.569 billion worldwide, the cost of all six movies combined is just over $100 million (Thanks Rodrigo over at The Playlist for this nifty stat).

1. The Curse of La Llorona — $26,505,000
2. Shazam! — $17,340,000
3. Breakthrough — $11,100,000
4. Captain Marvel — $9,100,000
5. Little—$8,451,000
6. Dumbo— $6,800,000
7. Pet Sematary— $4,850,000
8. Missing Link— $4,369,756
9. Us— $4,264,000
10. Hellboy — $3,880,000 ($19,676,271)
